Aftercare
Know what dressing your artist has used (dermalise /second skin or cling film)
If the artist has used Second skin /Dermalise, you can leave it on for 3-5 days. If your tattoo is small and is not bleeding it is okay to keep the second skin on for long and once you remove the second skin, just keep it moisturised. If you see any ink sacks , which is bubbles under the second skin filled with ink and body fluid which is not puss is normal. Please consult the artist or a doctor before you rule it out as normal.
If the artist has used cling film
After finishing the tattoo i wipe it down with green soap, and then wrap the tattoo in cling film and secure it micropore tape.
Take the film/dressing off within 2-3 hours of application.
Wash you hands before you touch the tattoo and wipe the tattooed area with normal/unscented soap and warm water.
Gently pat it down with a kitchen paper towel, do not use a hand towel , to avoid any clothing fibres sticking to the tattooed area.
Use a fresh tube/tub of antiseptic cream, and apply a thing layer. And repeat that two or three times a day for a weak and jeep it moisturised.
Use sunblock or sunscreen whenever you go out in the sun after it is healed.
Avoid your pets from licking any part of your tattoo which can risk the client having and infection.
Do not pick the scabs or the flakes with your nail, as you might infect your tattoo from the dirt/bacteria under your nails.
Showers are fine, dont soak it in water so avoid swimming in a pool or ocean, if they do swim, they can risk getting an infection.
If they do have an infection, I ask the client to contact their GP.
It takes 4-6 weeks for your tattoo to completely heal, as it takes 4-6 weeks for the top layer to regrow.
The skin might appear shiny while the tattoo is healing, just keep it moisturised during the 4-6 week duration.
You would know if it needs a touch up, if they do , i ask them to send a picture and then book in a touch up after 6 weeks to avoid going over a freshly healed skin, as you don’t want to cause any skin trauma.
